What the Fuck Can I Get at Starbucks?

While adventuring to Starbucks the other night with a friend of mine, she expressed to me that she was concerned about how much sugar was in her grande hazelnut soy latte and asked me if there was anything she could get to cut the sugar and the calories. "Should I order it skinny?" "NO!", I replied! "We've talked about non-fat milk before and nasty sugar substitutes!". Now mind you, most of Starbucks hot or iced espresso drinks, for a grande size, are less than 300 Calories. There are exceptions of course, like a White Chocolate Mocha (470 Calories and 67g of carbohydrates) and a Peppermint Mocha (over 360 Calories and 68g of carbohydrates). People get these EVERYDAY and don't bother to look at the menu for the calorie content or ask for a nutritional guide....So what the fuck can you get? Well if you really like those espresso drinks but want to watch the sugar and or calories, ask the barista for less pumps of syrup, and no whipped cream! Getting soy milk will only increase the amount of sugar (Starbucks uses sweetened, organic, non GMO vanilla soy). OR you can ask for a Grande Hot Coffee (I prefer the dark roast) with 2 pumps of your favorite syrup and a little bit of whatever milk you like for creamer (less than 100 calories and you can even ask for an iced coffee this way). This cuts way way back on the amount of sugar and calories you get while giving you the flavors you love and possibly allowing you to afford one of their yummy La Boulange pastries (which are made from simple ingredients like butter, sugar and flour). OR their Blueberry Oatmeal, made from whole grain rolled and steal cut oats, this awesome breakfast choice has 160 Calories and 28g of good carbohydrates. The Hearty Blueberry Whole-Grain Oatmeal as they call it, is offered with agave syrup and and a "fruit nut and seed medley", I skip the agave (pssst!! it's not all that good for you) and go for the brown sugar (or just take one raw sugar packet from the condiment bar use that) and use half the packet because that's a better choice. Agave syrup contains fructose rather than glucose, which carries a lower glycemic index (making it attractive to diabetics) but too much fructose in your diet can lead to heart disease and ...DIABETUS (as Wilford Brimley would say)!...And those breakfast sandwiches??? Well, I hate to break it to you but they have soybean oil in them, lovely GMO soybean oil. And the lunch sandwiches??? Yup, most of those have that nasty GMO soybean oil too. In fact, I've only come across 3 lunch sandwiches that don't have soybean oil or meat with nitrates, the Turkey Havarti, the Turkey Rustico Panini and the Tomato Mozzarella Panini. Aside from being GMO, soybean oil is some nasty shiznat that can mess with your thyroid, prevent mineral absorption, and contains "anti-nutrients" that can affect your ability to digest protein...Good stuff, huh??....Wanna know the absolute worst thing you can get from Starbucks?? One of Starbucks' biggest sellers... CAKE POPS! Please don't feed these nasty things to your kids! With ingredients like polysorbate 60 which can cause reproductive failure if consumed in large amounts (but who wants to take that risk? not me!)  and titanium dioxide which only belongs in sun screen and can be considered a carcinogen if consumed.... YAY! CAKE POPS FOR EVERYONE! Fuck that!

Until next time...
